Gary and I have noticed these Bowling Greens most everywhere we go:
Gotta tell you folks ... this looks ÜBER exciting!!!
Definition: "Bowls is a sport in which the goal is to roll slightly asymmetric balls, called bowls, closest to a smaller—normally white—bowl called the "jack" or "kitty". " - From Wikipedia
Here you can see the asymmetry of the balls:
I don't know if this adds to the level of difficulty, notches it up one level on the 'weirdness' scale, someone read the instructions wrong when making a set, or all of the above ...
We have noticed that where you have a Bowling Green, you generally find roving packs of old guys - generally dressed all the same (this may, or may not include a straw hat) and nary a one under the age of seventy:
Gary mentioned to me the other day that he was aspiring to become a 'Bowler' but he had years before they would accept him ... I think he has at least 15 years before he can even try out for the JV team ...

Those fellas look like they need to be captaining a gondola down the waterways of Venice. If the bowls had a detonation timer on them... now that would be exciting!!
Well, at least they are doing something, they have great camradery (matching shirts mean they must spend considerable time together) and someday they might save the world if they had to roll a bomb towards a terrorist center and have it end up just inches from the side of the building. Ya never know!
That looks like something I can do. It reminds me of bocce (which according to wikipedia is a close relative. It is fun. I think the irregular balls is a great idea. Then if you miss your target, you can always blame it on the balls.
We love bocce and that is the first thing I thought of. What a great sport! I actually think it looks quite fun and relaxing! Maybe they'd want a 20 something girl around to liven things up :)
