Ski Jump

In Oslo, we lived at the top of a mountain and there was a ski jump built for the Olympics ages ago that we drove by every day. From downtown or out in the fjord, you could see the curving silhouette of it and it seemed to define the mountain.

In honor of it being torn down to build one that is up to code for the 2010 international ski jump competition that will be held there, I decided to post my favorite photo of it. I was winding down the mountain on the way to the market when I saw that the clouds had all dropped into the fjord leaving a beautiful photo op. Turned around and went and got my camera (not something I need to do now, there is always a camera in my car when I go any where ... I mean what if you run into a two headed zebra and you are without your camera - you never know ...).

My honk! Could Norway be more beautiful?

I am totally intrigued. Tell me more about your time there and your wonderful grass-roofed house. Would you have to seed that every year? What was it like to have 5 hours of light everyday? Are people perpetually blonde, happy, and svelte in Norway?

Lastly, do you need a hot chocolate delivery today?

What a beautiful picture.

Oh, and I will anxiously waiting should you ever snap a picture of a two headed zebra.

Court - hot chocolate sounds like a good idea, but since Gary buys grundles of it for every scout campout - I think I can handle it myself!

The grass roof house is very traditional for 100 year old homes and they used to have goats that went up there and ate it. What was wonderful about the roof was in the springtime, it would bloom with tons of tiny purple flowers - it was beautiful!

And yes, Norway is this beautiful - you just have to point your camera and shoot - no talent whatsoever involved!

They are all very healthy, mostly slim but there were more brown haired people than I thought we were going to see.

Well, that is the longest comment I have written - more to come ...

That's it. I'm going. I would love to watch a goat nibble the grass on the roof of a 100+ year old house. And I do own 2 toggle sweaters, courtesy of my Norwegian-American husband. Plus, every Norwegian I know (a total of 6) is perpetually happy and has beautiful dimples. They must be doing somethin' right over there.

This is trivial, I know, but that ski jump looks a million times scarier than the way they film them for the Olympics.

Yeah, while we were living in a hotel while moving out ot the house on our way home, we FINALLY decided to visit the Holmenkollen museum (it is called the Holmenkollen Ski Jump) and went to the top of the sucker. Seriously looks like you are headed straight down.

The funniest part was driving by when there was a ski competition going on and a skier was coming down the ski jump. You could see him fly off of it and through the air and then just drop out of sight (we could not see the bowl they landed gracefully in and skied over to the edge). Until the day we went to a competition, I would picture they would just drop out of the sky into a huge pile of dead skiers (morbid I know - but that is exactly what it looked like they were doing!) so imagine my relief when I showed up and no pile of dead skiers at the bottom of the ski jump! I alway made me laugh, but I am sure y'all know by now I have a terribly morbid sense of humor!
